Biography

Sarah joined UK Government in Wales in September 2020 as the Principal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State. She previously worked for the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy where she was the Deputy Director for Strategic Communication, and prior to that led stakeholder and business engagement at the Department for Work and Pensions. Sarah’s career has spanned public, private and third sector, holding senior communications roles in local and regional government as well as at national science and educational institutions.

Principal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State

The Principal Private Secretary leads the Secretary of State’s Private Office and is a member of the Wales Office Management Board.

The role of the Office of the Secretary of State for Wales’ Management Board is to:

  • give collective and effective leadership to the Office of the Secretary of State for Wales and set its corporate direction and capability standards, informed by ministers’ aims, objectives and priorities
  • oversee the delivery of ministers’ objectives and priorities, as set out in the business plan, and the management of the key associated risks
  • ensure prudent and effective management of the Office of the Secretary of State for Wales’ financial resources and assets
  • agree and maintain a transparent and robust system of internal controls
  • lead and oversee the process of change and efficiency savings
  • lead collectively the management and development of Office of the Secretary of State for Wales civil servants
