Ruth Busby OBE

Biography
Ruth brings extensive experience from her time as People and Transformation Director in the rail industry in both train operators and Network Rail, where she also played a leading role in the design of Great British Railways. Ruth was a leading figure in rail industry-wide initiatives to improve mental health and inclusion, including as Executive Sponsor of Rail Wellbeing Live, and involvement in Women in Rail.
Prior to joining the rail industry Ruth held senior HR and transformation roles at the Atomic Weapons Establishment, was Deputy Director HR for the University of Reading, and started her career as a fast streamer in the Civil Service, predominantly in the Home Office.
Ruth is passionate about creating collaborative, inclusive workplaces, receiving an OBE in the 2024 King’s New Year Honours for services to diversity in the rail industry. Ruth is known for her commitment to driving positive change, including in her role as Non-Executive Director for Youth Futures Foundation. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), and a Leadership Fellow at St George’s House, Windsor Castle.
