Richard Keys was appointed as non-executive director at DFID in March 2013.
Richard is a former senior partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers and over his 37 years with the firm he held a number of senior management positions, most recently that of Global Chief Accountant and member of the Global Assurance Leadership Team leading a team of partners and professional staff across more than 30 countries.
His roles have included responsibility for many top global clients where he has advised and worked closely with many boards, audit committees and senior management.
He spent a period on secondment to the UK government, had an extensive involvement in the UK privatisation programme and in the first international initial public offering (IPO) of a major Chinese airline.
In addition to his position at DFID, Richard is on the board of Sainsbury’s Bank plc, a council member of the University of Birmingham and chair of its audit committee, and a member of the audit and risk committee at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

Non-executive directors provide an external perspective on DFID’s work, while knowing and understanding DFID as an organisation.
They use their experiences and skills from outside DFID to provide objective and constructive challenges on the decisions made by DFID’s committees and boards.
