Biography

Rebecca took up her post as the UK’s Economic Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization in November 2021.

Having completed her studies at Bristol University in Sociology and Politics, Rebecca has been a civil servant for over 15 years with leading roles on trade, digital (including AI), business, EU and international affairs. Prior to starting her current role in Geneva, Rebecca worked at the Department for Business and Trade, as Her Majesty’s Deputy Trade Commissioner for Africa in Nairobi, Kenya. Rebecca was the lead UK negotiator for Services and Digital trade for over five years covering both bilateral and multilateral negotiations.

Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative (Economic) to the United Nations agencies in Geneva

The UK’s Economic Ambassador exists to promote and defend the UK’s trade, economic, digital, artificial intelligence, and science and technology interests in multilateral Geneva. This includes representing the UK as Deputy Permanent Representative at the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Economic Ambassador to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the World Economic Forum (WEF), and CERN.
