Polly Billington MP
Biography
Polly Billington was appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero on 22 July 2026.
She was elected as the MP for East Thanet in July 2024.
Education
Polly graduated from the University of Sussex with a degree in History and French. She also has a postgraduate diploma in broadcast journalism from the University of Central Lancashire.
Political career
Before standing for parliament, she was a special adviser in the Cabinet Office and later the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). She was a councillor in Hackney from 2018 to 2024.
Career outside politics
Polly was a reporter and producer at the BBC, working on the Today programme, News 24, the Politics Show and Newsbeat.
She was Head of Communications and Campaigns at Citizens Advice from 2013 to 2015.
In 2016 she founded UK100, a network for locally-elected leaders pledging to act ambitiously in climate and clean air.
