Nigel Casey CMG MVO

Biography

Nigel Casey is His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation.

Nigel was the Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan from May 2021 until January 2023. He was also the Director for Afghanistan and Pakistan Directorate (APD) in the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

Nigel was previously the British High Commissioner to South Africa from April 2017 to May 2021. He was the Prime Minister’s Private Secretary for Foreign Affairs from 2014 to 2016 and British Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2011 to 2014.

Nigel is a career diplomat who has worked for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office since 1991. His career to date has been divided between the FCDO in London and 5 overseas postings. In addition to Sarajevo, he has been posted in Pretoria, Washington DC, Moscow and New Delhi.

Nigel studied Modern History at Balliol College, Oxford University.

They are responsible for the direction and work of the embassy and its consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
