Dr Nicola Rose

Biography
Nicola has a PhD in Genetics from the University of Leicester, and over 30 years’ experience working on viruses, vaccines, and regulatory science from positions at Cambridge University, the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control, and the MHRA.
Nicola was appointed Executive Director, Science and Research Group in August 2026, after leading the group on an interim basis since March 2024. She previously held senior roles at the MHRA in research and development, vaccines and virology, encompassing all three statutory functions of the Science and Research group.
As the Executive Director of Science and Research Group, Nicola is responsible for the statutory scientific functions that underpin our role in delivering regulatory science through the agency’s laboratory complex based at its science campus.
Nicola was appointed an OBE in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours, for services to science and public health.
