Nick Pickard

Biography

Nick Pickard assumed the role of Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Berlin in August 2014. He has been Political Counsellor and Consul-General at the Embassy since August 2013.

Between 2008 and 2012 Nick was based in London as Head of Security Policy in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, responsible for international security issues including NATO, European defence, counter-piracy, nuclear deterrence, and disarmament and arms control. He began his Civil Service career in 1995 in the Ministry of Defence, undertaking a range of postings covering defence industrial policy, missile defence, and equipment projects. He was responsible for European defence strategy from 2003 and 2006, including delivery of the UK’s EU Presidency in 2005.

He subsequently worked as a civilian Business Partner for the Royal Air Force and on a large-scale change programme for the Ministry of Defence headquarters, before transferring to the FCO in 2008.
