Nerys Jones

Biography

Nerys Jones was appointed His Majesty’s Ambassador to Montenegro in April 2026 and started the role on 3 September 2026.

Nerys was Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Vienna from December 2017 until March 2022, following a 6-month secondment to the UN Department of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs (BMEIA).

Before taking up her posting in Vienna, Nerys was Deputy Head of the Human Rights and Democracy Department at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London. She has extensive European experience (overseas and in London), and previously served as Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Athens. Nerys has also worked at the British Embassy in Rome; undertaken a temporary attachment to the Governor’s Office in Gibraltar; and studied at the UK Defence Academy in Shrivenham.

Nerys holds a BA Hons degree in Modern Languages (German and Italian) and European Studies. She is also accredited as a Chartered Manager by the Chartered Management Institute.

The Ambassador represents His Majesty The King and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the Embassy and its Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
