Mike Driver

Biography

Mike was appointed as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the Ministry of Justice on 1 April 2016. He leads CFO Group, which incorporates HMPPS, Operations and Group Finance, Commercial and Contract Management, Analytical Services and Change. Mike also has Director General responsibility for the Accountant General function.

Having joined the then Department of Health & Social Security in 1979, straight from school, Mike spent his first 6 years delivering services to customers before moving into regional management and onto a range of policy and finance roles, including Director of Operations Finance. In 2012 Mike was appointed as Finance Director General at the Department of Work and Pensions. Mike is a Chartered Public Finance Accountant and a member of the CIPFA board.

Chief Financial Officer

CFO Group supports the Department in delivering its priorities:

  • a prison and probation service that reforms offenders
  • a modern courts and justice system
  • Global Britain and the rule of law
  • a transformed Department.

CFO Group teams are involved in supporting all aspects of the Department’s work, from formulating policy to delivering services, supporting the Permanent Secretary, the Ministerial Team and Parliament more widely.
