Biography
Appointed Non-Executive Director to the VMD in October 2026.
Martin Veale is an experienced public sector non-executive director, qualified accountant and governance professional with a particular interest in how strong governance, effective challenge and good financial management can help organisations deliver better outcomes.
He brings extensive experience of providing constructive and independent challenge to boards and executive teams, with a particular focus on risk, internal control, financial management, governance and assurance. He believes effective scrutiny should be rigorous but constructive and proportionate, helping organisations understand and manage risk while remaining focused on their purpose and the people they serve.
Martin grew up in Ebbw Vale and now lives in Pontypridd.
A member of the VMD Management Board and Chair of its sub-committee the VMD Audit and Risk Assurance Committee.
Non-Executive Director, VMD
The VMD Audit and Risk Assurance Committee (ARAC) is a sub-committee of the VMD Management Board (MB). The VMD ARAC supports the Chief Executive as Accounting Officer and the MB in monitoring the corporate governance and control systems in the organisation.
It will advise on internal and external audit matters, risk, control and governance in the organisation. The ARAC’s scope and responsibilities include risk management, internal control, governance, financial reporting and internal and external audit.
