Martin Reynolds CB CMG

Biography

His Excellency Martin Reynolds is the British Ambassador to Libya.

He joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1997 and has since served in a range of senior diplomatic and policy roles, including as Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister (2019 to 2022) and to the Foreign Secretary (2014 to 2018). His overseas postings have included Deputy High Commissioner in Pretoria, Counsellor for Trade and Development in Brussels, and Second Secretary in Singapore. Most recently he carried out crisis response work and completed Arabic language training (2023 to 2025).

Ambassador Reynolds brings deep experience in strategic policy, EU and trade matters, and international crisis response.

The Ambassador represents His Majesty The King and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the embassy and its consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
