Mark Ripley

Biography

In 1983, Mark joined the Property Services Agency straight from school. He was promoted and joined their professional Internal Audit team in 1988 and has subsequently spent over 30 years in enterprise risk, internal audit and assurance roles in central government and the private sector. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (CFIIA) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA).

He was the Group Chief Internal Auditor for the Department for Work and Pensions and the Head of the European Social Fund Audit Authority for the UK from 2011-2018. During this period, his teams were named as the IIA Outstanding Public Sector Team, the CIPFA Counter Fraud Team of the Year and the Government Finance Function Internal Audit Team of the Year. He was also a member of the Advisory Board that developed the inaugural Public Sector Internal Audit Standards. More recently, he has led the revision and publications of the central government principles and concepts for the management of risk (The Orange Book) and chaired the cross-government Heads of Risk Network.

Mark is a Race Champion within the Ministry of Justice and actively seeks and encourages different perspectives through regularly mentoring women and emerging BAME leaders.
