Marc Holland

Biography

Marc Holland has been Deputy Governor of Gibraltar since August 2022. Before taking up his posting in Gibraltar, Marc was Deputy Head of Mission in Copenhagen for 4 years.

His FCDO career before Copenhagen had a strong EU focus. Roles included:

  • First Secretary Employment & Social Affairs at the UK’s Representation to the EU (2002-2006)
  • First Secretary EU at the British Embassy Berlin (2006-2010)
  • Team Leader, EU Institutions & Nordic-Baltic states (2010-2012)
  • Deputy Head of the Future of Europe Department (2012-2014)

He also has operational experience of the Overseas Territories, having served as Administrator of Ascension Island in the South Atlantic between 2014-2017, working closely with US and UK militaries.

Before joining the FCDO, Marc worked briefly in local government and management consulting and studied History and German at Wadham College, Oxford.

Deputy Governor to Gibraltar

The Deputy Governor is a senior diplomat and a key advisor to the Governor. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of the Governor’s Office. In the absence of the Governor, they represent the UK’s interests as Acting Governor.
