Biography

Magdalene Lagu is Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General for British Office Sudan, serving since April 2025.

Before this, Magdalene was Head of Governance and Stability in British High Commission Abuja from 2023 to 2025.

Magdalene has worked in the FCDO, and the then Department for International Development (DFID) since 2012, in corporate and policy roles in London. She was Head of Profession for Social Development after serving in various advisory roles including on gender equality, governance, economic development, girls’ education, and global health.

Prior to joining the civil service, Magdalene worked with humanitarian INGOs and the UN in fragile and conflict affected contexts.

Magdalene speaks English and Arabic, and has postgraduate qualifications in both International Development, and Law.

Deputy Head of Mission, Sudan

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and an important advisor to the Ambassador. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of the Embassy and represents the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires.
