The Rt Hon Lord Wallace of Saltaire

Biography

Lord Wallace was appointed as a Lord in Waiting in 2010. He was made a Privy Counsellor in 2012. He is a Liberal Democrat member of the House of Lords.

Spokesperson in the Lords for the Cabinet Office and Whip responsible for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.

Education

He was educated at Westminster Abbey Choir School, where as a chorister he sang at the Coronation of HM The Queen in 1953, and St Edward’s School, Oxford. He read history at King’s College, Cambridge and holds a PhD from Cornell University and an MA from Nuffield College, Oxford.

Political career

Lord Wallace was raised to the peerage in 1995 and served as his party’s Spokesperson for various departments from 1997 until joining the Government in 2010. He co-authored the 1979 and 1997 Liberal Democrat election manifestos.

Career outside politics

He began his academic career at the University of Manchester and subsequently held positions at Oxford University and the London School of Economics, where he remains an emeritus professor of international relations.

Personal life

Lord Wallace is married and has a son and a daughter.
