Air Commodore Liz Hutchison
Biography
Air Commodore Liz Hutchison is the Defence Adviser to Canada. She arrived in Ottawa in August 2026.
She leads the United Kingdom’s defence relationship with Canada. She works closely with the Canadian Armed Forces, government departments and international partners.
Liz joined the Royal Air Force in 1997 as an Air Traffic Control Officer. She has served in operational, command, policy and diplomatic roles across the Royal Air Force (RAF) and Ministry of Defence.
Her career has included deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, command of RAF Gibraltar, and service as Defence Attaché to Chile.
Air Commodore Hutchison holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies from Staffordshire University. She is a graduate of Canada’s National Security Programme.

A Defence Adviser is a member of the armed forces who serves in an embassy or high commission as a representative of their country’s defence establishment abroad. The Defence Adviser is responsible for bilateral military and defence relations.
