Laura Davies took up her appointment as Deputy British High Commissioner to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in July 2014.
Laura joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1998. She has recently served as Deputy Director for Migration and Deputy Head of Counter Proliferation Department in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London and as Deputy Political Counsellor in Islamabad. Other postings include Paris, Brussels, Addis Ababa and policy planning in London.
Laura has a degree in Classics and English from the University of Oxford. She is married to Charles and has two small children. If she had time for hobbies, they would include tennis, sewing and travel.
Deputy Head of Mission to Sri Lanka and Maldives
The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
