Biography

Katharine Felton has been Deputy Head of Mission and Consul at the British Embassy in Montevideo since July 2013. She joined the FCO in 2002 after graduating in Spanish and Portuguese from the University of Leeds. Prior to this posting Katharine worked in the Consular Assistance Department at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London. Her previous posting was as a worldwide floater, meaning she did a number of short-term attachments to British Embassies and High Commissions overseas. Katharine is originally from Worcester and has worked, travelled and studied in several Latin American countries.

Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Montevideo

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
