Kate Orrick

Biography

Kate Orrick began her role as the Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy Stockholm in September 2022. She has worked for the UK civil service since 2007, most recently as Development Director for Jordan (2018 to 2021); Deputy Development Director for Sudan (2015 to 2018); Head of the UK Security, Justice and Defence Programme in Libya (2012 to 2015) and the lead UK development representative in Yemen (2013 to 2015) and Iraq (2011 to 2012). Prior to joining the civil service she worked for the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy for Human Rights in Iraq and for a variety of non-governmental organisations.

Kate has a BA in Arabic and French (1st Class Hons) from the University of Durham and an MSc in Human Rights from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Deputy Head of Mission, Sweden

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
