Deputy Head of Mission Jon O'Shaughnessy
Biography
Jon O’Shaughnessy is Deputy High Commissioner at the British High Commission in Port of Spain. He previously served as Deputy to the UK Permanent Representative at the Council of Europe and has held diplomatic postings in Bosnia, Bulgaria (as HM Consul), Romania, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, Germany, Gibraltar, Pakistan, and Austria.
Before moving to Trinidad and Tobago, Jon worked at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in London, with responsibility for Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Switzerland. His UK assignments included roles on Human Rights, the Council of Europe, and the UN Security Council.
With a career spanning bilateral and multilateral policy, human rights, democracy, rule of law, and security and justice programming, Jon has also held several consular positions. He joined the Diplomatic Service in 1991.
Deputy Head of Mission, Trinidad and Tobago
In some countries, the Deputy High Commissioner leads a subordinate office to the High Commission in another major city. The Deputy High Commissioner fulfils a similar role to a Consul General, representing the UK government and typically responsible for consular, visa and trade activities in their city or region.
