John Dowie
Biography
John Dowie was appointed Acting Director General of Roads, Traffic and Local Group at the Department for Transport from May 2015.
Career
John joined the civil service in 1989 and in addition to working at the Department for Transport, has worked in the Department of Energy, Department of Trade and Industry, HM Treasury, Scottish Executive and the Government Office for the East of England. Prior to becoming Acting Director General, John led the establishment of Highways England and the new Road investment strategy.
John chairs the Transport Sector Transparency Board.
