Jennifer Anderson become the Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission in January 2017.
Jennifer joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1997 and has since worked on security policy, European affairs, EU accession, and change management in the FCO in London. Before becoming Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy Ankara, Jennifer was Head of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s Counter-Terrorism Department. She has previously served as the British High Commissioner to Botswana and UK Representative to the Southern African Development Community (SADC), as Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy Jakarta, and as First Secretary (Political/Military Affairs) at the the British Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels.
Jennifer has degrees in law and political science from the Australian National University. Before joining the FCO, she was Research Associate at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, London, and a Harkness Scholar at Columbia University. Jennifer is married with two children.
Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission, Turkey
The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
