Biography

James Roed-Moor started as Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Tashkent in February 2024.

James joined the UK Civil Service in 2002 and has worked for both the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and the Conflict, Stability and Security Fund. He has previously been posted as a political officer to the British Embassies in Kinshasa, Belgrade and Kyiv, and worked as a political adviser in the UK-led Provincial Reconstruction Team in Lashkar Gah, Afghanistan, alongside UK civilian and military colleagues.

James studied French and Italian at the University of Leeds, and also speaks Russian, Ukrainian, Serbian and Norwegian. Prior to joining the Civil Service he worked in the insurance industry.

Deputy Ambassador, Uzbekistan

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
