Biography

Iain King was appointed Interim Director General Delivery and Group Chief Operating Officer in February 2026 and has held the position of Chief Financial Officer at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs since December 2022.

Before that, Iain was Interim Chief Operating Officer at the Department for Education and Director General of the Operations and Infrastructure Group from April to December 2022.

Iain started his Civil Service career at HM Treasury in 2010 and has also worked in the Northern Ireland Office and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

His previous roles include:

  • Director of Operational Finance, Estates and Security and Chief Financial Officer in the Department for Education
  • Finance and Corporate Strategy Deputy Director in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

Prior to joining the Civil Service, Iain spent over 7 years in the private sector, working as a consultant and auditor for charities and not-for-profit organisations.
