Helen King

Biography

Ambassador Helen King is the UK Ambassador to the United Nations Economic and Social Council.

She has held a range of senior positions across His Majesty’s Government in a career spanning two decades.

Most recently, Helen spent three years at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office as Director for Economic Development. She was responsible for British Investment Partnerships, UK Development Finance, the UK’s relationship with the OECD, and Women’s Economic Leadership and Empowerment.

Prior to this, Helen held several senior positions in the UK Civil Service, including Deputy Director Prosperity in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Deputy Director for International Strategy in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, and various roles in His Majesty’s Treasury.

The Ambassador to the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) represents the United Kingdom at the United Nations on economic, social and development issues, leading engagement with Member States, UN agencies and international partners.  The role promotes UK priorities on sustainable development, humanitarian affairs, gender equality, economic growth and effective UN reform.
