Biography

Guy Janes took up his current position as Deputy Head of Mission and HM Consul to Haiti in October 2020. He joined the FCDO in 2007 working first on Parliamentary and then Middle Eastern issues. His first posting was to Sierra Leone in 2011 before returning to London as Deputy Head of Northern Europe and Germany Team in the FCDO’s European Directorate. Most recently he was posted to the Democratic Republic of Congo as HM Consul and Political Officer for the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Congo and the Central African Republic.

British Deputy Head of Mission to Haiti

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
