Glynne Jones has been the Director of the Wales Office since 2 January 2013. In the Wales Office Glynne has helped deliver some of the milestones in Welsh devolution, including the Government of Wales Act 2006, the Referendum on enhanced powers for the National Assembly in 2011 and the establishment of the Silk Commission. He joined the department in November 2005 and has occupied a variety of senior posts including Principal Private Secretary, Deputy Director, Strategy and Constitution and Deputy Director, Policy.
Before moving to the Wales Office, Glynne held positions in Whitehall including:
- Principal Private Secretary to successive Leaders of the House of Commons (Robin Cook, John Reid, Peter Hain and Geoff Hoon)
- Cabinet Office roles in areas such as modernising public services and reducing bureaucracy in the public sector

The Director of the Office of the Secretary of State for Wales is accountable for the overall performance of the department.
