Duncan Capps CBE

Biography

Major General Duncan Capps CBE is a former senior British Army officer.

Most recently he has been Director for the Home Office Maritime and Small Boats Command, leading the government’s operational response to small boat crossings, maritime security and overseeing the Joint Maritime Security Centre.

He served as Commandant of the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst from March 2020 to August 2022, having previously held senior operational command and logistics roles in the British Army, including leadership of deployed operations in Cyprus, Northern Ireland, Bosnia, the Middle East, Africa and Afghanistan.

Interim Border Security Commander

The Border Security Command was established to drive forward the required step change in the UK’s approach to border security, leading our domestic and international effort to deliver a stronger, more unified response to border threats with the immediate focus on countering illegal migration in small boats.

The Border Security Commander oversees the crucial work required to protect the UK border and tackle the smuggling gangs, providing strategic direction and drawing together the work of strategic partners across the border security system including:

  • the National Crime Agency (NCA)
  • intelligence agencies
  • police (NPCC)
  • Immigration Enforcement
  • Border Force
