Debbie Alder

Biography

Debbie took on the role of Director General Corporate Transformation in August 2023.

Previously, Debbie was:

  • Director General People, Capability and Place, DWP, from February 2021 to August 2023

  • Director General People and Capability, DWP, from April 2019 to February 2021

  • Director General of Human Resources, DWP, from January 2014 to April 2019

Before joining the Civil Service she served 21 years in the private sector in a variety of HR roles in the UK and abroad across retail, manufacturing and consultancy.

Debbie chairs the Civil Service HR Capability Board. She is a Trustee of the Whitehall and Industry Group, and a Steering Group member of Movement to Work.

Director General, Corporate Transformation

The Director General, Corporate Transformation sets and leads the department’s workplace transformation and estates strategy, aligning this to the business strategy and the wider Civil Service workforce plan.

They are also lead Accounting Officer on Synergy, the Shared Services transformation programme for DWP, the Ministry of Justice, the Home Office and Defra. This is a large change programme, hosted and sponsored in DWP on behalf of the 4 departments.
