Dawn McKen
Biography
Dawn McKen took up the position of His Majesty’s Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina in August 2026. A member of British Diplomatic Service since 1995, she has held a range of senior diplomatic and policy roles in London and overseas. Prior to her appointment in Bosnia and Herzegovina, she served as His Majesty’s Ambassador to Montenegro from 2023 to 2026 and was Deputy Head of Mission, later Chargé d’Affaires, at the British Embassy in Athens. Her previous overseas postings include Budapest, where she also served as Deputy Head of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires, and Moscow.
Dawn has extensive experience in European, security and foreign policy. In London, she has held senior positions including Head of the EU External and Security Unit, Additional Deputy Director for the UK’s future relationship with Turkey and Cyprus, Head of the Europe Programmes Unit, and Deputy Head of the Somalia Unit.
She is a graduate of the Royal College of Defence Studies’ Global Strategy Programme and holds a Master of Arts in International Security and Strategy from King’s College London.
British Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Ambassador represents His Majesty The King and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the embassy and its consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
