David Thomas

Biography

David (Dave) Thomas is currently the Deputy Head of Mission in British Embassy Bangkok. Prior to his appointment, Dave was the Deputy British High Commissioner to Malaysia from 2018 to 2022.

He joined the FCO in 1996 and has served at Posts in Lagos, Pretoria, Washington DC and Madrid. Dave has expertise in safety, security and justice and climate change issues and in Project and Programme Management. He also worked as the Tech Overhaul Programme Director in the Knowledge and Technology Department in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).

Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Bangkok

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
