David Ashley

Biography

David Ashley took up his post as British Ambassador to Madagascar and Comoros in January 2021.

Prior to taking up his current role, David was responsible for policy towards Syria and Iraq in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London.

He had previously served as Deputy High Commissioner in Bangladesh, and has also had postings in Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya and Serbia as well as working to secure UK ratification of the International Criminal Court. Before becoming a diplomat, David worked on human rights for the United Nations in Cambodia and for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Croatia.

He holds degrees in history from Cambridge University and the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. In his personal capacity, he is a Trustee of the UK’s Holocaust Memorial Day Trust.

They are responsible for the direction and work of the embassy and its consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
