Daniel Shepherd

Biography

Daniel has been Deputy High Commissioner to Jamaica since September 2020.

His previous postings include New Delhi and Hanoi, as well as serving as First Secretary and Spokesperson and Head of Press and Communications at the UK Mission to the UN in New York, and most recently in Pretoria as Consular Regional Director for Sub Saharan Africa.

His assignments in the UK have included Deputy Head of the Counter Proliferation Department, Head of the UN political team and, most recently, Head of Airlines and Assessments in the Repatriation Taskforce, which was formed to help British travellers get home when Coronavirus impacted on international travel options.

Daniel holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy with Linguistics (First Class) from the University of Sussex.

British Deputy High Commissioner, Jamaica

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
