Danial Shaikh
Biography
Danial Shaikh arrived in Vancouver as the British Consul General in August 2026. He is the UK Government’s representative in British Columbia, the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories.
Danial was previously Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Luxembourg. Before that, he served in China as Deputy Director responsible for commercial activity in sectors related to innovation and technology.
Danial has also served in Saudi Arabia as the commercial lead in the energy and education sectors.
His first diplomatic posting was to the British Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro where he managed consular services in Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay as well as serving as the Government’s liaison officer for the Football World Cup.
Danial joined the Government from the private sector in 2007, having worked as a Project Manager and Strategic Analyst in the Banking and Police sectors. Danial was educated at City, University of London.
British Consul General in Vancouver
The Consul General is the senior UK official in a Consulate-General, which is a subordinate office to the Embassy or High Commission, usually located in another major city. The Consul General represents the UK government and is typically responsible for consular, visa and trade activities in their city or region.
