Cyrus Mehta
Biography
Cyrus was appointed Panel Chair of the CMA on 19 September 2026 and has been a Panel Inquiry Chair of the CMA since 1 October 2025. He has been a Non-executive Director of the Board since February 2024. He is also a member of the CMA’s specialist news and media, and payment systems panels.
Cyrus is a former Partner and Head of the EU and Competition team at international law firm CMS in London. He has over 35 years’ experience in the field of UK and EU competition law, state aid, consumer law, trade law and regulation in both London and Brussels.
Non-Executive Director
Non-Executive Directors of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) Board play an important role in setting up the organisation, working with the chair and chief executive.
As board members, they are also responsible for:
- setting the organisation’s strategic direction and policy framework
- developing priorities
- monitoring performance against its objectives

The Panel Chair has overall responsibility for leading the CMA Panel, and allocates Inquiry Chairs and panel members to each case.
