Clare Allbless

Biography
Clare Allbless is Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Ashgabat. She took up her post in March 2025.
Clare joined the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) in 1997.
Turkmenistan is her fifth overseas posting. She served as Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Tbilisi from July 2000 – December 2004. Prior to that she had two separate postings to the British Embassy in Tokyo, and a posting to the British High Commission in Lilongwe.
Clare has worked in several directorates within the FCDO, including Eastern Europe and Central Asia and Asia-Pacific. She has also worked in the International Energy Unit, which brings together staff from the FCDO and the UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) to provide advice on international energy policy issues to all UK Government departments.
Deputy Head of Mission to Turkmenistan
The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
