Chris Dain
Biography
Chris Dain is Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Vienna.
Chris joined the Diplomatic Service in 2004. Previous roles include postings at the British Embassy in Washington DC as Science & Technology Counsellor (2019 to 2023), the British High Commission in New Delhi (2014 to 2015), the UK Representation to the European Union in Brussels (2011 to 2014) and the British Embassy in Moscow (2007 to 2011). In London, Chris has worked on sanctions, counter-terrorism and conflict prevention.
Chris studied English Language and Literature at Oxford University.
Deputy Head of Mission, Austria
The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
