Beverley Tew

Biography

Beverley Tew is the Lead Non-Executive Director at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. She was appointed as a Non-Executive Director in September 2020 and served as Interim Lead Non-Executive Director before being appointed to the permanent role.

Beverley is a chartered accountant and has over 3 decades experience as a chief financial officer and commercial leader in the public and private sectors. As Vice President at Burberry, she led the global restructuring and set-up of the new corporate headquarters in Leeds. As Group Chief Financial Officer at the BBC, she led the finance and commercial functions through significant organisational and digital transformation at the broadcaster. She began her career at Ernst & Young (EY).

Beverley has also worked in the international development and charity sector for over 20 years. She is a Trustee and Chair of the Audit Committee of Plan International (UK), an international humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls. Previously she was a Trustee and Chair of the Audit Committee of BBC Children in Need.

Beverley’s other current roles include Circle Health Group (Non-Executive Director and Audit Committee Chair), Cabinet Office Commercial Function (Crown Representative), and BAFTA (Audit Committee). Her previous Non-Executive roles have included Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply, European Broadcasting Union, BBC Global News, and Teentech.

Lead Non-Executive Director

Board members give corporate leadership to the FCDO by ensuring that the department meets the international policy priorities, Public Service Agreements targets and service delivery targets set by ministers. The role of a Non-Executive Board Member is to provide an effective and objective challenge to the rest of the Board and officials.
