Biography
Ben Rimmington joined MHCLG as jobshare Director General for Buildings, Fire and Resilience in February 2026. He shares the role with Katie Farrington CB.
His previous roles include:
- Director General, Net Zero Buildings and Industry at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ)
- Director, Roads Safety Standards & Services in the Department for Transport, including oversight of all EU Exit/Transition and Covid response work relating to roads
- Director, Business Environment, in the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS), leading on company law and corporate governance
- Deputy Director roles in BIS/DTI leading on business finance & tax, local growth policy, EU employment law and sponsorship of the automotive sector.
Ben is based in the MHCLG Leeds office and has two adult children.
Director General, Buildings, Fire and Resilience (Jobshare)
The MHCLG board’s role is to advise and support ministers on the operational implications and effectiveness of policy proposals and help turn policy from ideas into actions and results.
Part of MHCLG’s leadership team and an executive member of its board, the Director General, Buildings, Fire and Resilience helps with that task.
