Biography
Barbara Bennett was appointed Interim Director General Corporate Delivery Group in the Department for Transport (DfT) on 27 May 2026.
Prior to that, Barbara was Chief Executive and Director General, Jobs and Careers Service Operations at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
Her previous roles include:
- Director General, Operations, DWP
- Director General, Work and Health Services, DWP
- Partner, Public Services, PA Consulting
- Head of Operations for Genomics COVID-19 response at the Department of Health and Social Care
- various positions, including Managing Director, Citizen Services and Government Services Director, Central Government Division, Serco Group plc
- Transformation Leader, Home Office
- Global Account Director, IBM UK plc
Interim Director General Corporate Delivery Group
The main areas of responsibility are:
- leadership at Director General level for the management of financial and human resources
- the development of organisational capability and strategy for the transport system and the government’s role within it
- Principal Finance Officer of DfT, ensuring effective financial control and planning of the department’s budget
- Head of Profession for finance staff across the whole DfT Group
