Dr Alice Burt

Biography

Dr Alice Burt is His Majesty’s Deputy Head of Mission to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, promoting relations between the UK and Saudi Arabia and supporting British interests in the Kingdom.

Previously, Alice was Deputy Director and Head of the Ukraine Recovery and Reconstruction Department for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). Alice has also held multiple roles in the UK and overseas in the former Department for International Development, including Principal Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for the Department of International Development.

Before joining His Majesty’s Government, Alice has worked for a wide range of multilateral organisations, international NGOs, and research organisations. Her previous work overseas has included postings in Afghanistan, Central Asia, East Africa, and Washington DC.

Alice has a PhD from Cambridge University in Politics and International Studies.

Deputy Head of Mission, Saudi Arabia

The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
