Alexandra Knapton

Biography
Alexandra Knapton is the Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Bogota.
Alexandra speaks French and Spanish and has in-depth experience of Latin America, as well as the European Union. From 2010 to 2012, she advised the EU High Representative/Vice-President Catherine Ashton on Latin America policy. She was later seconded to the EU Delegation in Chile as the Deputy Head of Delegation and Political Counsellor.
Before Colombia, she worked as part of the UK response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, working remotely from Lima. She has also worked in various European roles, including in the European Commission and at the UK Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels.
Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy Colombia
The Deputy Head of Mission is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
