Alex Partridge
Biography
Alex Partridge became Deputy High Commissioner to Malta in July 2026. Prior to taking up his role in Malta, he served as Political Counsellor at the British High Commission in Ottawa, Canada from 2021 to 2026. In that role, Alex was responsible for foreign, security and development policy, as well as overseeing the UK in Canada’s public communications.
Previously, Alex held a series of roles in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in London. Most recently from 2018 to 2021, Alex was the Head of Commonwealth Partnerships and Institutions at the FCDO, overseeing the UK’s relationship with the Commonwealth’s intergovernmental organisations, after serving in the Cabinet Office as the Head of Human Rights and Governance Policy for the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London in 2018.
From 2011-2014 Alex was Assistant Private Secretary to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s Minister for Africa, serving under three different Ministers, after being Desk Officer for Nigeria and Central Africa. Alex began his policy career in the FCO as Assistant Political Desk Officer in the Iraq Policy Unit in 2006.
Alex has a degree in English Language and Linguistics from the University of Durham, where Alex was a member of St John’s College.
British Deputy High Commissioner, Malta
In some countries, the Deputy High Commissioner leads a subordinate office to the High Commission in another major city. The Deputy High Commissioner fulfils a similar role to a Consul General, representing the UK government and typically responsible for consular, visa and trade activities in their city or region.
