Ajay Sharma


Mr Ajay Sharma was appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the State of Qatar in November 2015. He succeeded Mr Nicholas Hopton. Ajay Sharma earlier served as the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) Head of Iran department and non-resident Chargé d’affaires to Iran. He played a role in the recent Iran nuclear negotiations and was involved in the reopening of the British Embassy in Tehran in August 2015. He has had previous diplomatic postings in Paris, Ankara and Moscow.

British Ambassador to Qatar

The Ambassador represents Her Majesty The Queen and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the Embassy and its Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
