Publication scheme

Each government department has a publication scheme, which makes information available about how it works and spends its budget.

Types of information we publish

Under section 19 of the Freedom of Information Act all government departments such as the Treasury have to adopt a Publication Scheme approved by the Information Commissioner.

It means that we should make information available about:

  • who we are and what we do
  • what we spend and how we spend it
  • what our priorities are and how we are doing
  • how we make decisions

How to get information

We usually publish information that we are required to provide on this website. If you can’t find the information you need on this site, then you can make a Freedom of Information (FOI) request.

Our annual report is also a main source for information about HM Treasury, and budget and pre-budget publications cover important economic analysis.
