Our energy use

FCO Services is working to reduce energy consumption and costs as well as carbon emissions.

FCO Services is a Trading Fund of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO); as such we strives to be an equally sustainable and committed department in the reduction to energy consumption and carbon emissions.

FCO Services are tenants of the FCO; this means we share and occupy significant areas of the estate in both King Charles Street and Hanslope Park, all of which are covered and regularly reviewed in our Memorandum of Terms of Occupation (MOTO). We also publish our proportionate energy consumption data as part of our Annual Report.

FCO Services makes up 13% (excluding Wider Markets) and 18% (including Wider Markets) of the proportionate contribution to the FCO’s energy performance and consumption.

FCO Services supports the FCO’s efforts to make the UK estate more energy efficient, and encourages staff to: •switch off lights and equipment when leaving the office •support ‘Switch Off’ campaigns during Climate Week •use the video and telephone conferencing facilities instead of travelling to a meeting

As tenants, FCO Services comes under the FCO’s ISO14001-certified Environmental management system (EMS) certificate (PDF, 246KB, 2 pages) that covers the FCO’s UK Estate.

All government departments and their Trading Funds work to achieve Greener Government Commitments targets. FCO Services supports the FCO target to cut Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 46% by financial year 2019 to 2020 compared to a 2009 to 2010 baseline. By the end of financial year 2016 to 2017, the FCO had already cut its (GHG) emissions by 39% and is on track to meet the 2020 target.
