Getting to GMH by bus
Please note that you can no longer use cash to pay for your ticket on the buses in central London.
These are the following ways you can pay:
- a contactless payment card to pay as you go
- an Oyster card with pay as you go credit, Travelcard or bus and tram pass
- a visitor Oyster card
- a day Travelcard or a one day bus and tram pass
If you are using the local mainline and Underground stations and then catching a bus to GMH:
St James’s Park
- there is no direct bus service – it’s quicker to walk
Pimlico
- there is no direct bus service – it’s quicker to walk
Westminster
- there is no direct bus service – it’s quicker to walk
Victoria
- 507 (to Waterloo) from the bus station in front of Victoria Station
- get off opposite GMH, outside the Home Office
Vauxhall
- 87 (to Aldwych) or 88 (to Camden Town): from the bus station outside Vauxhall station (bus stop B)
- 87 – Get off at Lambeth Bridge and walk along Horseferry Road to the junction with Marsham Street
- 88 – Get off at the side of GMH at the junction of Horseferry Road and Marsham Street
Charing Cross
- there is no door-to-door bus service – it may be quicker to walk
- 87 (to Wandsworth Plain): bus stop outside Charing Cross Station. Get off at Lambeth Bridge and walk along Horseferry Road to the junction with Marsham Street
- 88 (to Clapham Junction): bus stop in Whitehall. Get off at junction of Marsham Street and Horseferry Road
Waterloo
- 507 (to Victoria) from the bus stop at the side of Waterloo Station
- get off outside GMH, opposite the Home Office
Getting to GMH by bike
If you have your own bike, secure parking is available at GMH by prior arrangement with your host. There are also shower and changing facilities at this office.
Santander cycle hire scheme
This scheme means you can now hire a bike for short journeys round London.
If you use the scheme a lot, it pays to become a member but the bikes are also available for casual hire.

Car parking at GMH
There is no staff or visitor car parking at DfT’s London offices. However, limited parking can be arranged for mobility impaired drivers: please speak to the person hosting your meeting.
