Working for GORS
How to apply for jobs as an Operational Researcher in the Civil Service.
Recruitment schemes
GORS offers several central recruitment schemes. When you join us, you’ll be assigned to a department that has the most suitable opportunity and that meets your location preferences. To broaden your project experience, you can expect to move between departments throughout the early stages of your career.
- For graduates and experienced professionals: Fast Stream Scheme and Mainstream Scheme
- For university students: Summer Student Scheme and Sandwich Student Scheme
- Apprenticeships: Level 6 Data Science Apprenticeship
Through all schemes, you’ll be assessed against the Civil Service Success Profiles, which ask for evidence of your experience and skills. Technical skills are assessed using the GORS Technical Framework.
Recruitment by government departments
In addition to the central schemes, government departments also recruit Operational Researchers directly for specific roles throughout the year. You can find these roles on Civil Service Jobs by selecting ‘Operational Research’ from the ‘Type of Role’ drop down menu.
Badging process
If you are already a civil servant working in a role involving Operational Research, you may be able to join GORS without changing roles via the badging process.
