Youth Justice Statistics for 2018/19
The Youth Justice Statistics for 2018/19 were published today.
These statistics show the number of children (aged 10-17) in the youth justice system, the offences they committed, the outcomes they received, their demographics and the trends over time.
Charlie Taylor, Chair of the Youth Justice Board said:
There are clear areas of success and challenge for the youth justice system shown through these statistics.
The continued fall in children being cautioned, sentenced and entering the youth justice system shows that more and more children who offend are being dealt with at an appropriate level.
The reoffending rate has reduced and knife and offensive weapon offences are 1% down after four years of increases, which gives us hope that the youth justice system is moving in the right direction.
Amidst some success there are areas where we must make progress including disproportionality, remand and safety in custody.
